The Fever

They sent President Hanover’s daughter home with a high fever; a symptom of a virus that suddenly hit the school hard. Many thought it was an abnormally high spike early in the flu season.

The president had spent no time with his family recently, as he was still busy monitoring the movement of the wall and any pockets of resistance that might occur. He was prepared to order a swift response, but there had been no reports of problems and he was getting the feeling none would come. That he defeated the revolutionaries and left them with little, if any, ability to fight back. He was growing more confident by the day his nation’s decoupling strategy would work and ultimately pay off for Harmonians. In time, they could forget all about the Gappers and move on to their destiny of perfecting the path to immortality and perhaps colonizing other planets. The fewer of these Gappers, the better. In fact, with people living longer than ever these days, only so much room remained on this planet. The president had no regrets about what he had done to reduce Hope’s population. Well, perhaps one regret: He should have taken out a few more.
